VIC YWP Regional Study Tour 2024

Come and join the Victorian YWPs for an exciting adventure on the 2024 Regional Study Tour, exploring the theme: Water Futures: Envisioning and Creating a Water-Resilient Society.

Over two days, we will explore various sites across Victoria's South East, where you'll have the opportunity to engage in interactive workshops, visit interesting locations, attend captivating presentations, and gain insights into the latest technology. There will be plenty of networking opportunities for you to connect with like-minded individuals.

Departing from Southern Cross Station by bus to visit various water sites, including Westernport Water and the Vic Desalination Plant, with stops for morning tea and lunch. The day will conclude with dinner at The Wooli Tavern and an overnight stay at Silverwater Resort. The following day includes breakfast at the resort, a visit to the Drouin Waste Water Treatment Plant, and a return to Southern Cross Station.

 

 

Two Day Program

 
Day 1 - Friday 6 September 
 
7.30am Depart Southern Cross Railway station bus terminal 
  
9:00am Arrive at Cowes Wastewater Treatment Plant 
Site tour of Cowes Wastewater Treatment Plant and Class A Recycled Water plant including;
  • Innovative floating wetlands pilot project for nature-based treatment
  • Class A recycling and reuse to irrigation and class A customers 
 
9:10am Morning tea break + Welcome to Country 
 
12:00pm Arrive at San Remo Basin 
Site tour of recent cover replacement and enjoy scenic views of the coastline and hills 
 
1:00pm Arrive at Victorian Desalination Plant for a picturesque lunch overlooking the plant’s magical views. 
 
2:00pm Site tour 
Site tour of the iconic Victorian desalination plant. A chance to firsthand see the desalination process in action. The tour will showcase;
  • A detailed overview of the start to finish process with a senior operations staff
  • Background of the plants design and construction during a time of extreme drought
  • How the plant contributes to a more water resilient Victoria. 
 
5:00pm Silverwater Resort 
Check into your overnight accommodation at the Silverwater Resort. 
 
7:00pm Wooli Tavern Networking dinner - network, connect and get to know your fellow tour companions at the group dinner, it will be a relaxed night in a beautiful location.    
  
Day 2 - Saturday 7 September  
 
Breakfast at Silverwater Resort 
  
9.00am Depart Silverwater Resort 
 
10:00am Workshop/Presentations 
 
11:30am Depart for Drouin Wastewater Treatment Plant with lunch on the way 
 
1:00pm Arrive at Drouin Wastewater Treatment Plant;
  • Site tour of Gippsland Water’s Drouin Wastewater Treatment Plant
  • Learn about enhanced biological phosphorus removal process and Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) 
 
3:00pm Depart Drouin Wastewater Treatment Plant 
 
4.30pm arrive at Southern Cross Railway Station bus terminal
