VIC YWP Regional Study Tour 2022

EVENT SOLD OUT.....  Join the Victorian YWPs for the 2022 Regional Study Tour.  Over two days, taking in sites across Victoria's southwest, there'll be interactive workshops, site visits, engaging presentations and insights into new technology - plus great networking opportunities.  

The two-day program

Friday 9 September

7.30 am Depart Southern Cross Railway station bus terminal

9.15 am Barwon Water, Geelong for three engaging sessions
Session 1 - Deakin Uni - Smart Water Network designs to reduce water wastage and energy use.
At this workshop you'll get an insight into cutting edge research into smart digital network design and monitoring to reduce water leakage and climate impact
Session 2  - DELWP Water Literacy Sustainability Jam
and we're not talking jam and toast, it's a jamming of minds!  If you and your fellow YWPs were leaders of your organisation for a day, what would you do to improve water literacy on how to make the most of this scarce and precious resource.

Morning tea break - get to your travel companions over a cuppa and biccie..

Session 3 - Deakin Uni - Waste-to-Energy related research water resources management
How will waste-to-energy change the way we manage both ground and surface water resources?   Be part of this important discussion

Lunch break, followed by bus travel to Warrnambool

3 pm (approx) Site visit with Wannon Water to the Warrnambool wastewater treatment plant
Get first hand knowledge on how Wannon Water is planning to address growth and significant environmental incidents with the upcoming STP upgrade, and the challenges they have had to overcome to deliver this important project for south west Victoria.

Check into your overnight accommodation at the Lady Bay Resort Warrnambool.

Networking dinner - network, connect and get to know your fellow tour companions at the group dinner, it will be a relaxed night in a beautiful location.   

Saturday 10 September

Breakfast at Lady Bay Resort
and make sure you allow time for a stroll on the beautiful main beach and take in the view of Lady Bay itself.  You might even spot a whale, as this is known area for migrating whales at this time of the year.


9.30 am, Depart Warrnambool for Colac

Site visit at Colac Wastewater treatment plant - How future upgrades will deliver benefits to the environment, climate and local businesses
See how Barwon Water is delivering a Victorian first of using waste heat to support decarbonisation of local industry as a by-product of wastewater treatment.  How the project goes from an idea to construction and what challenges have to be overcome to implement.

Lunch in Colac then depart for Melbourne

3.30 pm arrive at Southern Cross Railway Station bus terminal
