TAS Where the Waters Meet Conference 2023
"It is not the strongest or the most intelligent who will survive, but those who can best manage change." Charles Darwin.
Adaption to change is vital for success, and we are currently in a period of global change – our climate and environment, the economy and its impact on projects, with a drive for nature-positive values, environmental accounting and diverse community connections. If we want a better tomorrow, we need to make changes today. Ideally we need to re-wire ourselves to be more comfortable with and open to change; we need to become more change-capable. The 2023 Where The Water’s Meet Conference in Launceston will explore the implementation of strategies across the water industry and look to where we can improve our current policies, procedures and projects.
Our Keynote speaker is Professor Ian Rutherfurd - Professorial Fellow at The University of Melbourne who will cover approaches to managing cumulative impacts on rivers.
Ian is a fluvial geomorphologist who has 25 years working with governments and communities in stream and catchment management, across Australia, Asia and North America. His research spans basic and applied river processes, and river management, and he has completed over 100 publications, 60 consulting projects, and $7m in funded research projects. Ian also has rich experience in education and professional training of all types.
After spending twenty years at the University of Melbourne (of which several years were spent seconded to the Victorian State government working in river policy), Ian is now a Professorial Fellow, and continues his research and supervisions. He also acts on numerous government panels and committees, and works part-time for Alluvium Consulting. He brings deep experience in the application of research to all aspects of river and water management, as well as excellent connections across the water sector.
