The AWA Queensland Branch is pleased to host its next Technical Event in Bundaberg, to highlight the efforts of the Wide Bay Burnett Region in maximising its world-class natural assets and developing thriving communities.
We know that water is a foundation for regional liveability. Without the provision of clean and safe drinking water and effective wastewater and stormwater services to protect the environment, support agriculture and energy, our regional areas would not be the liveable, sustainable, resilient places we see today.
Thanks to our sponsor, Bundaberg Regional Council, this technical event will feature presentations from water leaders from within the Wide Bay Burnett Region to discuss these critical issues:
o How can we value water in communities by prioritising a whole-of-water-cycle management approach and applying fit-for-purpose, fit-for-place and fit-for-people approaches?
o How are regional Queensland communities developing and implementing strategies, infrastructure and systems to secure access to safe water, quality and safe sanitation services and environmentally sustainable water services?
Those attending in person will have the opportunity to hear more from the presenters via a panel discussion after morning tea, and then visit the Belle Eden Waterway Naturalisation project, which has provided an effective habitat restoration of a drain to create an attractive naturalised creek. The waterway provides an effective stormwater drainage solution that is able to withstand high rainfall events and also doubles as a new area for families and residents to enjoy.
A casual meet and greet will be arranged the night before the presentations on Wednesday 15 March at a local venue in Bundaberg. Please indicate when you register if you plan to join us for dinner and/or drinks. Bundaberg is just a short flight or drive from SEQ, we encourage those from outside of the region to join us to network and share learnings about our regional communities.

| Sally Boer, E2 Design Lab "Alternative Water Sources for Liveability and Resilience” Sally Boer is a Director of E2Designlab and an aquatic ecologist with 20 years' experience in urban water management, aquatic ecosystem remediation, water sensitive urban design and green infrastructure asset management. Her passion is in sharing knowledge and achieving multiple outcomes that enhance urban ecology and liveability through collaborative and integrated planning and design processes. |
