QLD Technical Event: The Journey to Net Zero

The Queensland Branch invites water professionals to hear the experiences and challenges of water utilities on their journey to net zero. A panel of local experts will share their perspectives and knowledge of what's required on this journey, including achieving nutrient net zero, current thinking around carbon accounting and local efforts for carbon sequestration. They will discuss what has worked so far, what learnings can be shared and what the future might hold.

Kindly hosted by Urban Utilities at the Precinct, Fortitude Valley, the panel discussion will be followed by Q&A, then networking with light refreshments provided.

Panellists

Chris Bulloch, Urban Utilities: "Nutrient Net Zero"

Chris is the Executive Leader, Integrated Solutions at Urban Utilities with responsibility for water cycle planning for the cities and towns across the servicing territory to deliver core service value outcomes to enhance the liveability of over 1.5 million people. This includes the formulation of the City and Regional Futures strategy and development of plans and roadmaps to ensure the integrity of medium to long-term Integrated Catchment Plans that align business objectives with longer-term strategic direction. Chris is also responsible for environmental leadership, climate change, water security, biosolids management, receiving environment and waterway health management. Chris has engineering degrees in civil, environmental and management and has recently been appointed to the AWA Board.


Kathy Baker, City of Gold Coast: "Carbon Accounting"
Kathy is the Manager of Service Sustainability at the City of Gold Coast and is leading the way towards achieving the City's vision of enhancing the Gold Coast way of life through environmental stewardship, a strong strategic vision and a focus on integrated adaptive planning to sustainably meet the city’s growing needs. Kathy has a unique 29 year background in the water industry in both the public and private sectors and leads a team of professionals involved in catchment management, environment, laboratory services, product quality, process optimisation, water supply, recycled water and sewerage planning. She is responsible for the development and implementation of the City’s Water Strategy, Waste Strategy and Climate Resilience Strategy.


Amanda Binks, Unitywater: "Innovation and Net Zero Targets"

Dr Amanda Binks is the Strategic Infrastructure Manager at Unitywater, and has been a passionate water industry professional for over 15 years. Her role at Unitywater focuses on innovation for sustainability in infrastructure planning, and on partnerships and collaborations with community, industry and academia to accelerate sustainable outcomes in service delivery. 




Natalie Muir, Stantec: Facilitator

Natalie is the Regional Director, Environment & Geosciences and Climate Solutions Leader ANZ for Stantec. She has
more than 25 years' experience within the engineering profession and is passionate about the environment and sustainability. Natalie has held senior leadership positions on multiple region-defining water infrastructure projects across Australia, with a career highlight being her work on the various Logan Water Partnership programs where she has operated both within the team and at a governance level for over 12 years. When she’s not working, Natalie loves an early morning mountain bike ride, and hiking and camping with her family.
