Guests at the Darwin sundowner will have the opportunity hear from Tim Bond, Principal Policy Officer from the Office of Water Security reflecting on water and what ripples might do. Tim will celebrate what has been achieved during his time in the NT, including the early days of water allocation plans being developed with keen and knowledgeable people in the community and water advisory committees. Tim has been involved in implementing the Aboriginal water reserve and the way to build on the social and economic opportunities.
Tim will also reflect on being involved in the development of the Territory Water Plan and the NTG’s willingness to invest in a coordinated and collaborative approach, with a strong focus on Aboriginal Territorians being more involved in water decision making and, finally the privilege of being involved in crafting a new national water agreement. There has been some success in the draft being more fit for purpose for the NT regarding Aboriginal people and the challenges of realising ecologically sustainable use of undeveloped water resources. To finish Tim will share his thoughts on what he thinks are the best opportunities for water in the Territory. |
