Newcastle Sub Committee Presents: How will transition to future technologies effect the water industry?
Join the AWA Newcastle committee for a future transitions focused event highlighting how the Newcastle region is expected to change and what effect this may have on the water industry.
Hear some presentations from various backgrounds discuss water's role in future energy, asset transition and the increased importance of recycled water in our arid Australian climate within the Newcastle region. These presentations will be followed by a panel where the presenters will discuss how they see the role of water in these transitions from legacy infrastructure including coal fired power stations and mining towards future energy and future industries. The presenters will also discuss how Newcastle can harness the opportunities of previous industries and practices into the future.
Speaker 1:
Michelle Kiejda – Service Line Leader Asset Transition – GHDMichelle Kiejda is a Technical Director- Environment with 20 years experience. Michelle loves leading and being part of multi disciplinary teams, solving problems and working towards a common goal. Michelle is Currently working on a range of closure planning and rehabilitation projects for mining and other industries.
Speaker 2:
Kurt Dahl – CEO – coNEXA
Kurt Dahl is a Chemical Engineer with over 25 years' experience in the design, construction and operation of water and wastewater infrastructure. Projects have ranged in size (from 0.01MLD to 100MLD), and complexity (from advanced membrane systems to wetlands). Kurt started his career in process engineering roles focused on water treatment in the mining industry.

Declan Clausen – Deputy Mayor – City of NewcastleCouncillor Declan Clausen was elected to the City of Newcastle in February 2015, and has served as the City’s Deputy Lord Mayor since September 2017. He is currently serving in his third term on Council. Declan is an energetic and committed local who is passionate about sustainability, equality and renewing pride in Newcastle.

Matt Hingston - Executive Manager Customer Services – HWC
Experienced leader with a demonstrated history of working in a variety of industries including finance, media, advertising, and utilities. Skilled in Management, Digital Transformation, Strategic Planning, Customer Experience, Product Strategy, Marketing Strategy and Business Strategy.
Following the panel session there will be time for networking and drinks.
