Join the Newcastle AWA sub-branch of the NSW committee for a double treat! Firstly on offer is a technical event that will explore how research is the frontier for the future of wastewater management.
Followed by a Careers Night that will provide an opportunity to meet and listen to water professionals talk about their experiences, technical areas and career pathways in the industry.
TECHNICAL SEMINAR
Guest Speakers
Brett Neilan: Professor Neilan is an expert in molecular microbiology, genetic and genomic engineering and microbial chemistry. Brett will be presenting the Geomonics of Water Quality Management including how the discovery and characterisation of cyanotoxin synthetase gene clusters has resulted in an explosion of molecular detection methods for these organisms and their toxins.
Subhasish Mitra: Dr. Mitra is an experienced process engineering researcher with strong background in the multi-phase flow systems using high speed imaging, thermal imaging, PIV (particle image velocimetry), image processing, CFD (Computational fluid dynamics) and DEM (discrete element modelling) tools in mineral processing, iron and steelmaking and wastewater treatment applications.
This talk will address some of the emerging wastewater treatment technologies, namely use of micro-nanobubbles to improve anaerobic digestion (AD) process which is widely deployed for waste remediation along with cogeneration of biogas as a renewable energy source.
CAREERS NIGHT (sponsored by BECAhunterh20)
This free event is open to all students interested in gaining an insight into the water industry and is particularly suited to final year students from the engineering and science faculties. Following guest speaker presentations there will be a networking opportunity with industry professionals
