South Australia's February and April 2022 Sundowners
The South Australian Branch held two fascinating Sundowners in February and April this year, kicking off what will be a terrific program of insightful talks and networking events for the year.
February
In February Marion Vigot, CEO and Co-founder of Compostable Alternatives and Mister RYE and General Manager Responsible Cafes, kicked off the 2022 YWP Sundowner Series. The work of Marion and her team endeavours to find alternatives to plastics for cafes and get them into cafes and takeaway businesses. These alternative products are fully recyclable and do not contain the non-recyclable plastic liner, allowing them to be disposed of in the green waste bin or buried in the backyard. Additionally, many of these items are created from by-products of existing industries. By creating these biodegradable products, the pollution potential and impact on the waterways and environment is minimised.
April
On Thursday 21 April, SA young water professionals gathered at The Den at the King’s Head Hotel for the Association’s second Sundowner of the year. The theme of this event was ‘Water and Construction’ and had Boris Ninkovic presenting from Fulton Hogan. Boris has extensive experience across multiple states in both water and wastewater, from his time as a site engineer through to his current role as General Manager – Utilities SA/VIC/TAS. We got to learn about the importance of construction to water supply, how these projects are managed, and lessons learnt over his time in the industry. Boris shared some great insight into diversity in the workplace, especially gender diversity in male-dominated industries.
After the presentation and question time, many stayed behind for continued networking and socialising. The Sundowner provided a great opportunity to learn something new about water in the construction industry and meet with others in the water industry.
We can't wait to see you at the next Sundowner!
