President's Report - Carly Soutter
As we settle into the new financial year, it’s a great opportunity to update you on some of the recent achievements of AWA and the SA Branch.
We recently held our Branch Committee and YWP Subcommittee elections. I would like to make a special thanks to two of our past SA Branch Committee members (Phil Staniford, Bethany Cooper, Adam Metlock, Naomi Struve, Hariet Whiley & Jeremy Lucas ) that did not renominate this year. Thank you for the hard work and commitment to helping us provide greater engagement to our members. I would also like to make a special thanks to our YWP Subcommittee members that have finished their terms, thank you to Hayley Whitington, Catrin Moller, Adam Tomlinson, Bonnie Heidrich, Ben Thwaites & Adele Hay.
Our congratulations to those who sought re-election and are continuing. From the SA Branch Committee, welcome back Carmen Wentrock, Lionel Ho, Brett Reichstein, Andrew Wilkins, Danni Haworth, Elsie Mann, George De Cicco, Jodieann Dawe, Julien Anese, Justin Brooks, Nicole Hughes, Steve Morton . From our YWP Subcommittee, welcome back Jack Carbone, Lorline Kerlidou, Jess Bohorquez, Bridget Lindsay, Florence Choo, Ali Ahmadi & Sushrut Kulkarni.
We have some newly elected members that I would like to welcome. To our SA Branch Committee, welcome, Ben Thwaites, Brionne Gay, Christina Bruno, Edward Stewart, Kelly Hill, Madeleine Greenlee & Marc Doyle and welcome to our new YWP Subcommittee members, Amelia Skeer, Claire Hayward, David Murillo, Michelle Wilson, Tamsin Woods & Bek Rice.
Profiles of each of the new committee members are included in this issue of Source and I would encourage all members to consider nominating to join one of our committees in future. It’s a fantastic way to grow your network of industry colleagues and to contribute to the water sector beyond your own organisation. I’ve met so many people that I am pleased to have as colleagues and friends through my involvement in AWA and it has definitely helped me in my career progression. Ozwater’23 was a great example of this, spending three days learning from others and continuing to develop my network, both with members from SA and across the country.
After the dust settled on Ozwater, the SA Branch turned our attention to hosting The President’s Dinner with 26 water leaders attending the event at Electra House with Corrine Cheeseman CEO AWA addressing the esteemed group. Of course, the YWPs had their very successful Forum at the Zoo with over 80 attendees talking about disaster recovery an resilience.
For this first half of the new financial year, we have a packed calendar with several major events for the SA Branch. The first is the SA State Conference which is being held at the Adelaide Convention Centre on the 21st of September. It is always a fantastic evening attracting Members from across SA. Register here.
The follow up event is our premier SA Gala & Awards Dinner to be held on Friday 10th November at the Adelaide Convention Centre where we celebrate our award finalists and winners – please keep an eye out for tickets when they go on sale in September! Nominations to be part of the Water Awards SA will close on 1 September, so please take the opportunity to recognise the great projects and people that make up this great industry by submitting nominations. The winners of these awards go on to compete at the national level at Ozwater.

National Water Week is bigger and better this year so make sure you have a look at how you can get involved and help promote the water sector to the public, your staff and to students making career decisions.
The YWP’s have a Sundowner coming up on the Circular Economy. You can register for that here. Later on in the year they will run their very successful Amazing Race event and launch the 2023-24 Mentoring Program so keep an eye out for that as well.
I hope to catch up with you at an AWA event very soon and encourage you to get involved in what the SA Branch & YWPs have on offer whenever you can.
