Peter Dennis is AWA's President Elect
The AWA Board elected our next President, Peter Dennis, during Ozwater'22 in Brisbane. Peter will take the position at the conclusion of Ozwater'23 in May next year, taking over from the current President, Louise Dudley. Louise has one year left in her term as President.
"I am pleased to announce Peter's appointment as the next AWA President on behalf of the Board," Louise said.
"Peter has been an active member of AWA for 30 years and joined the AWA board in 2019. Peter has a range of skills and experiences which will be valuable in the role of President following Ozwater'23.
"One of the strengths of AWA is our governance process that allows for stability and also renewal over time."
Peter is CEO, Hunter H2O and a Director of Beca Pty Ltd (Australia) and the General Manager – Water. He also serves as a Director at Icon Water and Local Government Procurement NSW, and is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Newcastle.
Peter brings over 30 years' experience in water management to the role, having previously served as CEO for Seqwater and on a number of water sectors and Local Government Boards.
"It has been my privilege to work with the Board over the last few years serving the needs of our members," Peter said. "Our remarkable water community plays such a pivotal role in shaping a sustainable water future for our cities and regions, and I continue to be inspired by the work we all do.
"The Australian Water Association plays such a critical role in sharing, connecting and inspiring our members. I look forward to working with Louise and the rest of the Board over the next twelve months to develop Strategy’25. Any vision for moving forward, to be compelling and workable, must be a shared vision.
"I feel humbled by the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of Francois, Carmel and Louise at such an exciting time for the Australian Water Association. I am very much looking forward to continuing to work with Corinne and Kirsty and support the great work they do for the Australian Water Association membership."
As President Elect, Peter will fulfil the role of Vice President. AWA’s Constitution allows for the President to be supported by the Immediate Past President in the first year of their 2 year term, and then the President Elect in the final year of their term. This allows for continuity as the leadership of the Board changes.
