With NAIDOC Week Celebrations having come to a close, we asked Platinum Corporate Member, Seqwater what the week meant to them.
The 2023 theme for the recent National NAIDOC Week was ‘For Our Elders’ to acknowledge the important role that Elders have played and continue to play in communities and families, across generations. AWA Platinum Corporate Member, Seqwater, participated in NAIDOC Week celebrations to provide an opportunity to reflect, broaden perspectives and build cross-cultural connections.
The Seqwater Reconciliation Action Plan Working Group and Diversity and Inclusion Group joined forces to host six events across the region to share in the celebration and be a part of some First Nations traditions and cultural practices. These events included yarning circles, traditional bush cooking and painting. Seqwater was extremely grateful to Aunty Dale Chapman from My Dilly Bag and Tanika from Nooks & Cooks for bringing NAIDOC to life with bush tucker cooking, and Emma Newton from Endless Ochre for sharing their talent. Seqwater is committed to its Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan and will continue to listen, build meaningful connections and make space for important conversations with local First Nations peoples.
As part of our own reconciliation journey, AWA is keen to ensure more meaningful engagement with First Nations people and we're looking forward to having Thomas Holden, Chief Executive Officer, Three Big Rivers delivering a keynote address at our upcoming NQ Conference to challenge us to think differently about Indigenous collaboration and engagement. We recently asked two of the Ozwater’23 Yarning Circle leaders to share their experience of facilitating the practice and the important role of Elders. Read more.
