At Veolia, we stand strong in our commitment to Indigenous communities, businesses, and employment pathways. This year is particularly significant as we proudly celebrate a decade of our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). For the past 10 years, we have worked toward a future where the cultures, opportunities, and connection to Country of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are recognised as vital components of building a sustainable Australia. Reconciliation is a responsibility and a guiding vision that drives our purpose and operations.
As part of this ongoing commitment, Veolia is honoured to sponsor the Welcome Networking Partner for the upcoming Voices from the Bush conference. This key event provides a platform for sharing and amplifying the perspectives of Indigenous peoples in regional and remote communities. We are excited to have Jamie Porteous, General Manager for WA/NT/SA, attend the conference to discuss critical matters affecting these communities. The Voices from the Bush conference allows us to engage directly with Indigenous leaders and continue advocating for issues shaping regional Australia's future.
Our efforts extend beyond advocacy into tangible actions that impact the lives of Indigenous peoples. We continue to support clients and communities nationwide while actively promoting Indigenous employment opportunities within our organisation. This commitment is exemplified through initiatives like our FutureForward Program, which has successfully led to hiring several young Indigenous job seekers at Veolia sites along Australia’s east coast. These opportunities foster employment and build pathways for career growth and community leadership among Indigenous youth.
Furthermore, our work doesn’t stop at employment. We are deeply invested in improving the quality of life in remote Indigenous communities. For example, our efforts in north Queensland focus on providing safe, reliable drinking water to remote areas that often face challenges in accessing clean water. By ensuring that these essential services are available, we contribute to the sustainability and health of some of Australia’s most vulnerable communities. We look forward to continuing our partnerships with Indigenous communities, fostering economic growth, and supporting cultural recognition.
