The new year brought in a name change for the department managing Victoria’s water security – the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) is now known as the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA).
DEECA now welcomes the Agriculture portfolio and is saying farewell to the Planning function, which will move into the Transport area.
With climate change pressures and estimates of a doubling in population growth by 2050, one of DEECA’s key priorities is building safer and more sustainable water resources alongside water corporations and Catchment Management Authorities.
Our challenge is to improve Victoria’s liveability while responsibly managing our natural environment for future generations, including support for the water sector’s net zero emissions target by 2035.
