As part of this year’s National Water Week (18-24 October), Victorian water utilities have teamed up with the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning for Explore Your Backyard, an exciting online learning festival.
Coliban Water Managing Director Damian Wells will be co-hosting the festival, which has been designed to encourage using water efficiently in the garden, while reflecting on the theme of this year’s National Water Week, "caring for water and Country".
“We’re very excited to be part of this online learning festival, which will celebrate and nurture our connection to Country and water,” Wells said.
“It will feature live webinars, on-demand workshops, tours, videos and resources, all designed to get everyone outside and using water efficiently in the garden.
“National Water Week will be launched at 4pm on Sunday 17 October by special guest, Costa the Garden Gnome from television series Dirtgirlworld. I will co-host the launch event; we have a great program planned for people of all ages and gardening abilities."
The festival will be the second of its kind, following the success of last year’s event, which focused on water efficiency and exploring nature in your local area, whether that is a local waterway, veggie patch or balcony garden.
“We are proud to be collaborating with water organisations across Victoria. The team has created an exciting program of water-themed events,” Wells said.
“Following the huge success of last year’s inaugural online learning festival and uncertainty around restrictions, it made sense to bring back a bigger and better event this year.”
The Explore Your Backyard activities have been designed to suit a range of ages, interests, topics and learning goals and can be accessed from the comfort of homes or classrooms.
“Most importantly, we hope participants have a bit of fun, learn something new and enjoy exploring their backyard,” Wells said.
