Challenging conversations at Ozwater'24
Ozwater'24 will feature non-technical streams from Aurecon and Water Services Association of Australia.
Aurecon Partner Stream – Challenging Conversations
Day Three
Thursday 2 May
2:00pm - 3:25pm
The water industry stands at a critical juncture, faced with great opportunity to embrace a circular economy. As populations expand and environmental pressures escalate, traditional linear approaches to water and resource management prove increasingly unsustainable. While our industry certainly has great intent and a desire to be leaders in sustainability, we must hold a mirror up to traditional practices and policies and be honest about what’s holding us back. A panel of thought leaders will explore what it takes to achieve a greater focus on sustainability and a circular economy in the water industry.

Day Two
Wednesday 1 May
Session 1 - 10:35am - 12:00pm
The decade that matters: investment, climate, technology
We know this is a critical decade. The need for national reform is heightened. The challenges of climate change, population growth and ageing assets, combined with changing expectations from customers and regulators, are now forcefully driving necessary investment to record levels meaning the era of flat prices is over in many jurisdictions. We continue to have a gap in provision of water to First Nations communities. All while we face transitions in energy and digital. Join us as we hear from expert speakers on the decade that matters.
Session 2 - 1:10pm - 3:00pm
Frontiers of recycling
Join us for a glimpse of the emerging frontiers of water recycling – both locally and globally. With direct potable reuse regulations passing in California, a new purified recycled water demonstration plant now open in Sydney, and an exciting proposal for offset mechanisms to fund non-potable recycling in Australia, the scene is looking strong. Hear insights from international and local experts and see the home-grown global purified recycled water map that has brought the growing global community in this area together.
Session 3 - 3:50pm - 5:20pm
International perspectives: collaboration and opportunities
Hear insights and perspectives from four international speakers facing different challenges around the globe. From hosting the Olympics in July 2024 (Paris) to making reform happen (New Zealand) to infrastructure resilience (USA) and wastewater pollution and trust issues (UK). Each speaker will share their own context and form a panel to discuss not only the challenges but the opportunities for collaboration.
