Clarissa is an experienced Digital Engineering Delivery Manager in the water infrastructure industry. She is currently the Water Market Lead NSW at Jacobs, the AWA NSW Branch Committee President and the SWAN APAC Digital Twin Working Group Chair.
What drew you to the water sector and why?
I've always been fascinated by the power of water. I lived next to a creek growing up and my brother and I would spend hours trying to create a dam to block the water flow.
My first job in water was with UGL where I worked for over eight years and my first project was Liverpool STP for Sydney Water. I remember going to site and thinking: wow, this is interesting…and smelly!
What did you enjoy studying at school or university?
My favourite subject at school was textiles and design. I wanted to be a fashion designer when I left school but discovered I had a greater interest in designing water infrastructure.
What has been your career pathway?
I have been lucky in my career. People believed in me and encouraged me to grow my career in different ways, which I am grateful for. I have been given opportunities to try many different roles in the water industry over the years and they've helped me develop a range of skillsets. I have tried moving out of water a few times, but always come back.
What has been the most rewarding part of your career in water so far?
I like to reconnect with the people I have mentored over the years. I am so proud to hear their stories and how they have progressed in their careers.
Why did you get involved with the Australian Water Association and become a member?
I became a member after my girlfriend invited me to come along to a Legends of Water event. I had such a great time I signed-up the next day and joined the committee about a year later. Being a member of the AWA has kept me engaged and deeply connected to the water industry.
What would your career and professional work advice to the 16-year-old you be?
Always believe in yourself.

The AWA recognises the great work provided by their members through the awards program and provides development opportunities for our YWPs through the mentoring program.
