Ex-Sydney Water Managing Director (MD) Kevin Young has made his way from the Emerald City to the Apple Isle, taking up a position on the TasWater board.
Young will fill the vacancy left by Dr Stephen Gumley, who was named Chairman following the retirement of Miles Hampton.
In announcing Young’s appointment, TasWater Chief Owners Representative Doug Chipman said his 40 years’ experience in water and wastewater would be a valuable contribution to the board.
This includes eight years as MD at Sydney Water and seven years in the same role at Hunter Water before that.
Young said he had maintained a keen interest in TasWater since the reform of Tasmania’s water and sewerage industry in 2009.
An engineer by training, his technical skills will also help TasWater develop its 10-year capital plan to ensure its infrastructure performs to modern standards, protects the health of the community and environment, and helps build a sustainable water and sewerage sector in Tasmania.
“Kevin’s commitment to excellence in customer service and innovation also aligns well with the priorities of TasWater,” Chipman said.
Young’s appointment will take effect from 20 September 2019.
