Daniel is the new AWA Qld Member Engagement Manager.
I commenced with AWA on 13 April 2021, after working in or with Queensland local government for about 12 years.
What drew you into the water industry?
My initial work with the Local Government Association of Queensland was in demand management programs, including water demand management in SEQ. After that I was helping councils with flood restoration programs for assets including water infrastructure.
Who or what do you draw inspiration from?
Mostly from the people I work with. I have had some really good managers and been in some great teams. The AWA team is one of the good ones!
What do you like to do in your spare time?
When my part-time job is not taking all my time, I like to paint watercolours. Also fond of watching Formula 1 and cricket, and eating and drinking at my local pubs etc.
If you were a breed of dog, which would you be and why?
Labrador – big, friendly and fond of food.
What do you believe is currently the greatest challenge for your part of the water industry?
AWA faces challenges like every other membership organisation when funds are tight, lockdowns are rife and many members are having to prioritise their time. However, it is a great organisation and we have a lot of supporters in the industry.
What messages would you like to give to your colleagues in the Queensland water sector?
Drink plenty of water! Seriously, my wife and I both had kidney trouble recently, and drinking water is the best treatment. And its good for all our jobs!
The QLD Source Editorial committee is always thinking about how to better engage with our broader membership. Do you have a diverse background or experience you would like to share?
My background is highly diverse, but mostly not related to water. Happy to chat at any time, though, about art, cars, nuclear science, gambling, hairdressing or government.
