Indonesian water association executive director passes away
The Australian Water Association (AWA) is saddened to hear of the passing of a great friend, Mr Ashari Mardiono, Executive Director of the Indonesian water supply association PERPAMSI last week.
“Pak Ashari played a significant role in developing the relationships between the Indonesian and Australian water sectors, including the establishment of an MoU between PERPAMSI and the AWA in October 2016,” said AWA President Carmel Krogh.
“We acknowledge the contribution he has made as a leader to the Indonesian water sector, initially as President of the Surabaya water utility (PDAM) and as Executive Director of PERPAMSI for the last four years.”
AWA has been grateful for Ashari’s leadership in recent years, enabling the strengthening of relationships between the Indonesian and Australian water sectors, including the support for Indonesia’s emerging water leaders.
“Through our relationship with PERPAMSI and with Pak Ashari’s support, we were able to commence our Water Utility Improvement Program,” said AWA Chief Executive Corinne Cheeseman.
“We are confident this project will leave a long legacy for the exchange of water knowledge and friendships between our two countries.”
On behalf of the Australian Water Association membership we send our condolences to Pak Ashari’s family and friends and the entire PERPAMSI community.
