On a sunny December afternoon, over 20 water professionals from around the ACT region attended a technical tour or the Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council’s (QPRC) Googong Water Recycling Plant (WRP).
The 1.5ML/day WRP supplies the adjacent Googong Township, located about 15km from Canberra, with recycled water for public green spaces, residential lawns and gardens, and flushing of toilets.
QPRC hosts, Gordon Cunningham and his dedicated treatment plant manager Martin, provided a great overview of the operational facility and the 1.5ML/day stage 2 expansion project nearing completion. The WRP is located a stones-thrown from adjacent residential properties, adding to the many complexities and challenges of operating and maintaining the WRP and purple-pipe network.
Following the tour, other AWA members joined in on some ‘sundowners’ at the nearby Capital Brewery to network with peers and reflect on the achievements of 2022 and upcoming challenges for 2023!“
