Queensland Water Award finalist pushes for innovation in critical asset management
Posted 30 August 2017
Innovation in critical asset management is helping Australian utilities find and manage weaknesses in critical water infrastructure.
Pure Technologies has been working alongside Queensland Urban Utilities (QUU) to develop a new and innovative approach to assessing some of the state’s most critical assets within the S1 Sewer Catchment System.
Pure Technologies’ Regional Engineering Manager Roberto Mascarenhas said the goal was to help QUU identify weak links and selectively repair or replace those weak links to extend the life of the critical asset
embraces innovation and this particular project has required some out-of-the-box thinking from a technology and engineering assessment approach,” said Mascarenhas.
“The water industry is coming to a point where most of the existing ageing assets are reaching what is thought to be the end of their economic or serviceable life.
“However, what we find is that there is more life remaining in these assets if they are selectively rehabilitated.”
Mascarenhas said Pure Technologies is able to provide solutions to utilities across Australia, which enables them to optimise their budgets and effectively manage their systems with an eye on the future.
“The project [with QUU] has been a great success,” he said.
QUU Major Project Manager Jonathan Farrell said the collaboration with Pure Technologies helped QUU to improve its customer service and the reliability of its water and sewerage networks.
“The technical expertise provided by Pure has allowed us to undertake an accurate condition assessment and have the appropriate data to make an informed decision on the current condition of the mains.
“This will allow us to plan cost-effective, timely upgrades to ensure the asset reaches it design life.”
Mascarenhas said his team was pleased to be a finalist in the Queensland Water Awards.
“It’s great recognition overall for both us and for QUU,” he said.
