IPART review of WaterNSW underway

Posted 25 July 2016

FaucetThe Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) has commenced a review of WaterNSW’s operating licences, with submissions from stakeholders now welcome.

Formed on January 1 2015, WaterNSW currently operates under the licences of two former NSW utilities, the State Water Corporation and Sydney Catchment Authority.

A spokesperson said IPART will consider WaterNSW’s functions and obligations for the next five-year period.

“At the moment, we are looking forward to the next five years and asking what obligations stakeholders consider WaterNSW should be undertaking, and how those obligations should be met,” the spokesperson said.

“One of the key issues will be the format of the new licences – whether it is effective to retain two separate licences, or if the two current operating licences should be merged into one.

“We seek the views of WaterNSW, their customers and other stakeholders.”

The new operating licence(s) would come into effect from July 1 2017.

Submissions from interested parties may be lodged until September 13.
