Short Courses
  • AWA has been running high quality training and professional development short courses since the year 2000. Most of AWA’s short courses involve face-to-face delivery modes, using high calibre speakers and covering a variety of leading edge and current topics of interest.

There are many reasons why employers might want employees to enrol in short courses rather than full qualifications. For example, staff might already have completed an entry level qualification and therefore have sufficient foundation skills and knowledge to do their job. However new and emerging technologies as well as regulatory changes often require new skills. Offering short courses to staff is also one way employers can retain staff who may otherwise be lured to working in higher paid industries.

2012 and beyond sees a new coordinated and strategic approach to our short course offerings, with a program that reflects more balance between the Vocational Education and Training (VET) and Higher Education sectors and a stronger focus on linking training initiatives to formal accreditation. A number of initiatives are described below:

    • Water Industry 101 – a Snapshot of Current Issues / Trends /Challenges (coming in 2012)
    • Coal Seam Gas - one day training and 3 hour workshop (in partnership with NCGRT)
    • Sustainability Implementation - Action and Tools for Change
    • Sustainability Leadership - How to Facilitate Positive Change
    • Climate Change Adaptation Planning - Building a Plan of Action

AWA will assist employers to maintain a high-skilled workforce, by working closely with them to construct customised short courses that can efficiently meet workplace needs. To assist in the development of relevant new short courses AWA has designed new industry training partnership arrangements described below.
