Diploma Unit of Competency: Lead Others in an Asset Managed Environment (VU20632)
  • This is a two day diploma level course designed to familiarise participants with Asset Management and how their leadership in planning and implementing effective and efficient work activities in an asset managed environment impact on their business’ ability to deliver products and/or services to customers.

    Course Objectives

    Provide participants with the skills and knowledge to:

    • Apply the principles of sound Asset Management in leading a team or providing support for others in planning and delivering an asset management related program of work
    • Identify, prioritise and carry out team work activities within the context of business objectives, assets meeting their required performance targets and levels of service, cost optimisation and organisational risk
    • Formulate an asset management strategy and operational plan for the team based on cost constraints, risks to business continuity and service level agreements.
    • Manage performance of a team in an asset managed environment by resourcing to meet levels of service, development of a continuous improvement culture and process through systematic problem solving and issue management, and consequent development of team and personal action plans.
    • Ensure provision of data and knowledge to the required standard for sound decision making in reporting on assets, asset management and operational activities, and coordination and quality assurance of team data.
    • Provide input to renewal & replacement programming & prioritisation
    • Support the organisation’s business continuity strategies through involvement in risk management, contingency and continuity planning and implementation and application of continuous improvement review processes to risk management and reporting.
    • Analyse service provision failures and the role of support services and team leaders in implementing business continuity strategies and operational and maintenance plans to meet performance targets in the future.

    The Unit of Competency consists of seven delivery and assessment topics:

    1. The Asset Management context
    2. Asset Management decision making
    3. Asset performance management
    4. Resourcing of Asset Management activities
    5. Asset data and knowledge management requirements
    6. Risk management, contingency and business continuity planning
    7. Conclusions and action planning
