VIC Water for Life Workshop - What is it all about and how does this affect the broader water industry?

The Water for Life strategy has been developed collaboratively by Greater Melbourne’s water corporations – Greater Western Water, Melbourne Water, South East Water and Yarra Valley Water - to respond to the challenges we face to ensure a secure and sustainable water supply future for our region.

The team have also worked with our customers and the community, Traditional Owners, the government and key partners to respond to the challenges we face to ensure a secure and sustainable water supply future for our region for the next 50 years.

Purpose of the water for life strategy

Across Greater Melbourne, our population is growing, we are using more water, our climate is drying and there is less water in our rivers. Together with expanding urban development, there is increasing pressure on our most valuable resource – water.

The Water for Life strategy explores the challenges we face, and outlines an adaptive approach to addressing our declining water availability and increasing demand by laying the foundations for our transition to a more climate resilient, manufactured water future.

With AWA the Water for Life team will guide an open discussion and Q&A on:

  • How the team has worked with Traditional Owners, customers and the community to shape the direction of the strategy; and
  • How the proposed Water Security Framework will guide planning, decision making, and implementation work required for an Adaptive Plan with clear trigger points and governance arrangements.

Following the workshop, there will be time for networking and refreshments, included in your registration. This event is intended to be a face to face event live streamed for a virtual audience, providing a technical discussion and networking opportunities.
