November 7 marked the first day of the Australian delegation mission to Vietwater 2016. Australian delegates had an in-country briefing with the Australia Water Association's President, Peter Moore and International Manager, Paul Smith; the Vice Chairman of Vietnam Water Supply and Sewerage Association, Mr. Thien Nguyen; the Australian Consul-General Karen Lanyon together with  representatives of Austrade, Australia Chamber of Commerce and DFAT; and the CEO of ANZ Bank in Vietnam, Dennis Hussey.

Attending the briefing were representatives of Australian organisations working in the Vietnam Water Sector including SMEC, SC Capital Partners, Baker and McKenzie; plus representatives from five Australian water utilities, each participating in a twinning program with five Vietnamese water utilities during the conference.

The briefing provided insights into opportunities, challenges and tips for doing business in Vietnam from various perspectives of legal, business banking, culture, and relationships, and created a great platform for Australian delegates to start discussion with participants on a road map of Public Private Partnership in Vietnam.

The Australian delegation are looking forward to the site visit to Mekong water utilities on the second day of their mission on 8 November 2016, where they will be introduced to two Vietnamese water companies participating in the twinning program.
