Connecting the Australian and Vietnam water sectors
Published 19 July 2016
The Australian Water Association CEO and the Association’s International Team undertook a mission to Vietnam to progress a program of activities to connect the Vietnam and Australian water sectors 4-9 July. The mission builds on the momentum to connect our two water sectors following the largest Australian water delegation to ever travel to Vietnam to participate in Vietwater'15 and the largest Vietnamese water delegation to ever travel to Australia for Ozwater'16.
A central focus of the Associations mission was to progress Vietnam’s first water Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) under new legislation in Vietnam released by the Vietnam Prime Minister in 2015 and to support enhanced private sector participation in meeting the significant water infrastructure funding shortfall. The Association are also supporting Vietnam’s water sector with improved service delivery by transferring innovative technology and exchange of Australian expertise.
During the mission the Association met with the Vietnam Ministry of Construction, Vietnam Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Vietnam Water Supply and Sewerage Association (AWA MOU Partners), RMIT University, World Health Organisation, World Bank, Asian Development Bank, Australian Chamber of Commerce, the Vietnam Women’s Union, the ANZ Bank CEO and Vietnam water utilities and private sector companies.
An outcome from the mission was a program for the Australian delegation to Vietwater'16
(Vietnam’s largest water exhibition I 8-12 November) to ensure Australian delegates get the most value from their participation.
The Aus-Vietwater16 program will include site tours to water companies and industries interested in Australian technology and services, business introductions, social events and workshops on technology transfer, water quality and financing water infrastructure.
